New Food Lion Ad & Other Grocery Store Rumors

Check out what I have now – a new Food Lion ad instead of a Bloom ad. The Leesburg and Purcellville locations have officially switched from Bloom to Food Lion. I don’t know about the other locations here in Northern Virginia yet because the back of my flyer only lists that the prices are valid in Leesburg and Purcellville.

Later today I’ll put up the first Food Lion matchup on SuperNoVA Saver as well as the Harris Teeter matchups.

In other and exciting news. I’ve heard RUMORS (from a pretty good source, one of the other Trader Joes stores managers) that the old Borders location in Sterling VA will soon become home to the newest Trader Joes in Northern Virginia! Like in August 2012!

Now it’s got me wondering what will go into the empty Bloom spot in Leesburg…. any thoughts?

See updated information about Bloom being 75% off posted 2/1/12 here!

So I believed that Bloom was going to 75% off today and I went to my local store this morning in Leesburg, and no, they are not!

Yesterday (Friday 1/27/12) I had 2 confirmed stores saying they were going to 75% off, and this morning after my surprise I called all 7 stores again to find out the information. Here is what I’ve got:

  • Every store is sitting at 50% off
  • Most stores are completely wiped out
  • No one will confirm 75% off AT ALL (except Leesburg told me in-store they were going to go to 75% off on Wednesday)

I talked to the Walkersville, MD store for a few minutes and was told that they got notified late last night that they and likely all closing Blooms, Food Lions and Bottom Dollars will NOT GO TO 75% off! That the stores have been selling everything so fantastically at 50% they have no need to do so before they close. Also that the Walkersville, MD store will likely close early next week.

My advice: call the store if you want to know before you go. If you have ANY interest at all, go now, they may not be open much past this weekend.

I went this morning and at Leesburg there was a lot of Ice Cream left, Grilling things (charcoal, planks, skewers), and some pet food.

I came out with some dinosaur sippy cups, ice cream, and salsa.

* PLEASE check your expiration dates. I was browsing salsa with a girl and we found one that expired in August 2008!!! Like really? Please check them!

My Bloom 50% Off Trip Picture, Notes and Update!

So I made it out to my local Bloom this afternoon that is closing. I talked with a friend this morning on the phone and she mentioned that the Bloom/ Food Lion closings are being described as “The Black Friday of grocery shopping” and something clicked in my brain and triggered me to go into full out shopping attack mode. So I went to lunch with some friends and then decided that since my children were already awake when they should be napping, I couldn’t resist the urge to go to Bloom.

I spend $92, which is more than I had hoped to spend, especially for such a cleaned out store (I’m probably grateful they were cleaned out or my damage would have been much much worse) but I got a lot of great items, and what’s really cool to me is that I got a lot of QUALITY organic items for VERY VERY CHEAP, things hard to coupon for.

Here is a breakdown of what I got:

  • Almost 7lbs of organic Red Delicious Apples
  • 2.5lbs of Red Pears
  • 4 Breyers Ice Cream (my FAV)
  • 1 Turkey Hill Ice Cream (in my fav flavor from them)
  • 1 bag of chicken rawhides for my dog
  • 1 jar of Woodstock Farms Natural Almond Butter
  • 1 jar of Woodstock Farms Natural Cashew Butter
  • 1 jar of Cascadian Farm Organic Blackberry Fruit Spread
  • 2 jars of Smuckers Red Raspberry Jam
  • 2 Bottles of Juicy Juice 100% juice
  • 2 boxes of Ice Pops (no these aren’t healthy but they have their place in summer)
  • 1 big box of seedless raisins
  • 3 bags of mini boxes of seedless raisins
  • 1 tube of Webers Kickin’ Chicken seasoning (soooo good)
  • 3 bags of Goya Chickpeas
  • 1 bag of wooden bbq skewers
  • 1 pkg of Carr Whole Wheat Crackers
  • 1 pkg of Carr Table Crackers
  • 1 pkg of Food Coloring regular colors
  • 1 pkg of Food Coloring neon colors
  • 1 big pack of 4 colored sprinkles (score!)
  • 5 packs of muffin cup liners
  • 1 pkg of Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 pkg of Whole Grain Fig Newtons (if you haven’t tried these, they are actually 100% better than regular ones, more chewy!)
  • 1 jug of 100% pure organic Maple Syrup
  • 2 bags of Raisinets (the cost of bringing 2 non-napping toddlers to the store with me)
  • 4 Cadbury eggs (not pictured)
  • 1 bag of Birds Eye Steamfresh Broccoli (not pictured – forgot to pull out of freezer for picture)

Whew! After typing it up, I feel much better like I really got a lot of quality stuff for the price!

Some notes about the trip:

I had been stressing this whole time about bringing coupons with me and was stalling because “I wasn’t ready” and I finally bit the bullet and went without and I’m glad I did, here is why:

  • There were oooodles of people, and they DID NOT CARE that I had 2 small children in my cart, I had numerous people bump right into my daughters legs and I was getting really ticked off about it. Bringing coupons into that mix would have been a nightmare.
  • There is NO dairy left AT ALL
  • Cereal gone, juice gone, chips gone, sugar, flour, meat and most produce were gone. And I cleaned out the apples ;)
  • Surprisingly there was a bit of coffee left, lots of spices, still a fair amount of canned items (I was surprised to find the raisins) and a lot of frozen pizza actually.
  • Most food items that were still there were store brand, not national brands. So coupons wouldn’t have mattered.

Bloom Update:

I’m hearing a lot of reports actually that they are thinking that most Bloom stores will not last beyond this weekend or a day or two next week once it goes 75% off. The likelyhood of them going to February 15th is very very slim, if you have interest, GO! I’ll be going again on Saturday morning as soon as they open to find out what’s left at 75% off. Hopefully you all can get out and find a few things!

I’d love to hear about what you got at Bloom, post a comment here or on my Facebook post and tell me what you scored for a great price, send me a picture, I’d love to see!

UPDATE: SEE THE LATEST BLOOM INFORMATION POSTED 2/1/12 HERE!

So there are 6 Bloom grocery stores in Northern Virginia closing and 1 in Maryland by February 15th 2012.

About the 7 Closing Bloom Stores:

The information that I’ve gathered now about each of these closing stores is that as of today, 1/25/12 the 7 closing stores have dropped to 50% off everything in the store (except tobacco and alcohol).

WOW!

Some things to keep in mind:

  • The stores that are closing have changed their hours to be from 8am until 6pm daily.
  • They will still be taking manufacturer’s coupons at face value only! No doubling, and they are not taking Bloom cards or coupons.
  • They are NOT following any ad and all stores will be closed by February 15th at the latest (as soon as they run out of merchandise).

The closing stores are:

Bloom 2703 8425 Woodsboro Pike Walkersville MD 21793
Bloom 2778 7000 Columbia Pike Annandale VA 22003

About all the remaining Bloom stores converting to Food Lion:

  • All of the other remaining Blooms will be slowly converting to Food Lion stores over the next couple of months. This will likely take through March.
  • The Bloom ads are still valid and Bloom cards/coupons are still accepted at the converting stores.
  • Food Lion cards will start to be given out instead of Bloom’s Breeze cards, no word yet on whether or not they will automatically send current customers a new Food Lion card or if you’ll need to re-sign up.
  • This Saturday 1/28/12 the Bloom stores that are converting will be having a Super Double Coupon event where they will be doubling manufacturer’s coupons with a face value of up to $1.99. You can see my Bloom ad/coupon matchups for this week’s sale here.

New *High Value* Coffee-Mate Creamer Coupons!

Somedays you think the couponing world is against you, I guess I’m having that week. Just like yesterday with the Oscar Mayer lunchmeat coupon that came out a day after I went shopping. I was frantically searching my house up and down for ANY coffee creamer coupon before I went shopping and BAM, now they appear. *sigh*

Snag these and don’t get caught like me! There is a new $1.10/2 Coffee-Mate Natural Bliss coffee creamers coupon and an AWESOME $1.85/3 Coffee-Mate Liquid Creamers coupon.

Actually, I’m going to bring this to Bloom on Saturday (1/28/12) because they are having a Super Double Coupon day and I am going to be able to double that $1.85 to $3.70, now THAT’s awesome! I’ll have the Bloom matchups for that up later this afternoon!

Other Blooms making the transition to Food Lion:

As far as the ones that are still open and will be making the transition to Food Lion, I called two, and both told me that they are already making a slow transition that will likely take a couple months and should be fully transitioned by the end of March. They are still accepting Bloom cards, coupons and honoring the ads (there is a Super Double Coupon event at Bloom this Saturday 1/28/12!). But they will also start having people sign up for Food Lion cards. Neither store knew whether or not current Bloom cardholders would be automatically mailed a new Food Lion card or if we’d have to re-sign up for one.

Keep following SuperNoVA Saver for more information on Bloom closing, ads and transition to Food Lion. This is affecting a ton of my local readers (one of the ones closing is my main one, so I’m right here with you) and I want to make sure I’m covering this for you! This is the advantage you get for reading a local coupon blog and I’m humbled you are choosing to read mine!
