Pink Slime? No Thanks!

I’ve been missing for a while – yes. BUT, I wanted to share some news articles with you that have hit me really hard.

Been watching the news? You may have seen this about pink slime in our ground beef? No thank you. Our family had cut out almost all red meat except for some very lean ground beef here and there but it’s about time it’s cut out completely now unless I buy 100% USDA Certified Organic Ground Beef. We have cut out all processed chicken products as well.

If you want “Pink Slime” free meat, make sure it’s stamped Certified Organic! What stores use pink slime you wonder? Many are not saying, but you can get certified organic at Whole Foods, and if you’d like to avoid it, I’d shy away from Stop & Shop since they are saying that it’s “safe to eat”. Well, so are slugs and squirrels, but I’m luckily able to choose what I am going to feed my family and I’m choosing not to eat slugs or hunt the little squirrels in my yard.

Many of us as couponers use ground beef a lot, especially if you are on a budget because for a good price on ground beef, you can make it last in a meal by stretching it with rice, potatoes, quinoa etc.. Personally, I think we should be stretching our ground beef ourselves with our own fillers, I don’t need it stretched twice. Also, if you’ve never tried ground turkey or chicken, for a very similar price – now might be a good time to try it! We are having shredded pork tacos (from a whole pork tenderloin I slow cooked) tonight instead of ground beef tacos as another alternative!
